This is Baba, my VERY special Japanese granny. Her favourite foods are sweet beans, rice, pickles and sometimes a really big jacket potato. She also likes growing tomatoes and tai-chi. She is responsible for my love of Japan and my ultimate source of inspiration. Today’s recipe is Baba’s favourite. It is very simple but sometimes simple things are the best 🙂
Baba likes to eat sweet beans (called omame in Japanese) with her main meal. Why not give it a go? It changes things up a bit so you can do the sweet, salty, sweet thing without having to eat desert and two dinners!
INGREDIENTS
1 can of cooked beans in water (you can use any type of bean – Kidney, Soy, Black, Cannelini,
Berlotti or a mixture.)
3 tbsp sugar
METHOD
1. Add sugar to beans with water. Bring to boil, turn down heat and simmer for about 30 mins (if beans boil dry add a little extra water).
2. Leave to cool and put in fridge. Eat cold.
